So what you're saying is ... now's a good time to sell game tokens for gold?

Hard to say for now the price seems to have plateaued but could go higher depending on if more information about the tokens is release. I do not see it going down much Order halls are starting to generate a good amount of gold for me so I do not seem the gold supply drying up much.

I would say if you want gold now you are getting a nice amount for your cash.

There's been a wee bit of a run-up in the North American wow token price since the last time this thread was active, peaking at 200K in early November and hovering around 190K for most of the fall.  But the price has started to decline a bit in the past couple of weeks, now oscillating around 165-170K.

As I recall, prices were at ~40K gold just two years ago.  The currency squish is not going to be pretty!

Currency squish? I knew there was a stat squish coming in BfA, but is something happening to prices?

People have been talking about it for year but I do not think Blizzard has every said anything about it.

Agreed (with the second part; this is the first I've heard of the idea myself).  If Blizzard wants to keep gold amounts memorable, they could introduce a higher-level currency like "platinum", but reducing people's gold quantity seems like it would just irritate people.

Frist I had heard of it too, the "people talking" of it was only some posts a google search of "Currency squish" unearthed.

Sorry, didn't mean to start wild rumors.  At a 400% inflation rate, token prices will eventually be large enough that they stop making sense to the casual player.  Introducing platinum and removing copper seems more likely; Marco is right.

The gold price of tokens is down about 10% from before the pre-patch released (around 190K now, around 210K before), if anyone's been sitting on gold.

To make it a bit cheaper if you turn your time tokens to Battle.net balance first then use the balance to buy game time you end better off.
  • Six months (180 days) is $77.94 or 5 tokens and top up of $2.94.
  • A year (well 360 days ) is $155.88 which is
    • 10 tokens and a top up of $5.88
    • 11 tokens and $9.12 left over balance.

Price is now 179,239, I assume the price is falling due to the gold reward missions not being there anymore. How low do people think the price will get?

When 7.0 dropped (Jul 19 2016), the token price declined from low 40Ks to mid-30Ks over the following month, and continued to decline into the low 30Ks after the Legion release (Aug 30 2016) until mid-September, when it started climbing.again.  Note that you couldn't exchange tokens for battle.net balance back then--in particular, you couldn't use them to buy the expansion.  I'm not sure very many people are waiting until the last minute to buy BfA and to buy tokens with gold to do that with, but if there are, that's upward price pressure which didn't exist for Legion.  (Source: the graph on wowtoken.info.)

The next big spike will probably happen when people can buy the Blizzon 2018 virtual ticket, which happened September 13 last year.  Of course Blizzcon itself may prompt another spike.  There are strong hints of a Diablo announcement (see the video in the launcher) and also hints of a new IP in development.

Nice summing up, thank you :)

I'm thinking the reason for the stall in price at the start of Legion was the gap between WoD's follower gold mine (Garrison missions) closing and Legions follower gold mine (Order hall missions) starting up?

Played a but of the Beta but did not look at followers, are their mission as much of a gold mine as they were for WoD and legion?

I think how easy is it for people to earn the gold being the long term driver for the price rather than the services people can pay using it. Other uses may cause a spike in price but I would guess may be short lives spikes rather than a long terms price rise.
