Log in on Winston after the patch and go try killing some random mobs in the Vale.  If you can kill them, affliction will probably be fine for leveling.  Don't let the opinion of one raiding-oriented player affect your judgement about a spec so much.

Your booberry can probably hold aggro on most things in the world while you figure out what buttons to push when.

I totally read that wrong the first time through...made me giggle.

I strongly suggest not trying Ordos for a day or two.  You need more healing, you need the tank to move out of fire now, and you really need people to not be so unbelievably goddamn STUPID.

You sure just a day or so is going to fix that problem?

Awesome -_-

Short version, DON'T LOG OUT IF YOU'RE LOGGED IN BECAUSE NOW THE GAME HATES YOU.

Edit, nevermind, now it's working after multiple attempts to relog back in.. I should know better on patch days =P

I followed your advice. The Vale Sha just melted away. The only issue I had as Affliction was realized that Malefic Curse (or whatever it was called) had gone away, and Drain Soul was now the universal filler. The only issue I had as a player is my frames UI mod (X-Perl) has not been updated for 6.0.x yet, so I couldn't see the absolute health of the mobs, only the relative lengths of health bars.

On the other hand, my better-geared Fistweaver (iLvl 560ish vs. Winston's 500ish) was sluggish compared to 5.x. I hadn't appreciated before how much haste affected ability cooldowns. I could still get a mob down, but it takes longer than it used to.

There are not enough real-life intellect buffs in the world to make this happen.

wowhead now has a full set of class guides up at http://www.wowhead.com/classes .  If the icy-veins guide for your spec seems dodgy, you might check out what's there.  (Avoid the "Class Changes" links unless you want a long read; instead click on the link for your spec.)

Make sure you loot your mine/herb garden before upgrading from level 2 to garrison level 3 because once you do everything respawns and you get to loot it twice in a day.

Same for when you upgrade the actual mining and herbing buildings.

Given that I have more than enough resources to send followers around, what's the best use of resources?  I've upgraded a few buildings but I think I need to ding 98 to unlock more upgrades.

You should pool 2000 for the level 3 Garrison at 100.
