Deadly Cupcakes Holiday Charity Drive
« on: November 23, 2010, 05:53:17 AM »
We had a great time last year bribing ..er.. rewarding people for giving to charity and even better we managed to raise a tidy sum for all kinds of good causes. So we're going to do it again!

The Deal: Donate to the charity of your choice and then post or pm or email a screenshot/photo of that donation to either Edalia or Wren by December 14th and you'll be entered in to a raffle to win one of our FABULOUS PRIZES.

PLEASE NOTE: Qualifying donations need to have occurred between October 1, 2010 and December 14, 2010.  (If for some reason you always make your donations on December 21st or something let us know and we can evaluate on a case by case basis)

Not sure where to donate? Don't worry! I'll be including some suggestions below, as well as a reliable way to check any charities you may be interested in. Also note- these are just suggestions, if you have a favorite charity feel free to use it.

Worldbuilders (benefiting Heifer International) - The author Patrick Rothfuss organizes this charity drive that benefits Heifer International. Every $10 you donate gets you an entry in his raffle and a chance to win all kinds of donated, signed books from a variety of sci-fi/fantasy authors. (check his blog to peer at the donated prizes)

Child's Play- Run by the folks over at Penny Arcade, donates toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world.

Engineers without Borders- EWB-USA helps create a more stable and prosperous world by addressing people's basic human needs by providing necessities such as clean water, power, sanitation and education.

Want to check on a charity or find a charity that benefits a certain group?
Check out the Charity Navigator.

[more charities to be listed as I gather them]

Oh good: an excuse to donate to AFSP again this year, but this time for "Team Wyatt".  I felt a little bad my annual donation hadn't gone to the Maryland team due to timing, but hey, all fixed.

Plus I was thinking about Wyatt last night as I toured the old world that last time.  I definitely wouldn't have such fond memories of the old place without his help.  He not only suggested going to the salt flats for easier leveling, but personally escorted me to make sure little Fallowgrey made it back when the guards would have killed him.  He should have been here to see the new world (if only to complain about it.)

Alliance: Fallowgrey, Dwarf Priest / Evring, Nelf Druid / Arkibal, Human Paladin / Gayelette, Dwarf Shaman / Haikeebah, Pandaren Monk
Horde: Sootandash, Tauren Druid
Misc:  Kikiaru, L37 Gnome Mage / Erzula, L9 Human Rogue / Zelbinion, L68 Worgen Warrior / Rinkitink, L40 Belf Hunter

Donated to EWB this year. I did the charity thing here last year, and won a fun game.  You all should participate!

Also wanted to mention: EWB is currently funded for a 1:1 match through December 31 so anything you give to them is doubled.

Follow-up regarding qualifying donations. While we want to encourage the spirit of charitable giving whenever possible, it was decided that since this is a Holiday Charity Drive that we'll only accept donations that happened no earlier than October 1, 2010.

Remember, we don't set a minimum donation amount, and every little bit helps. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Less than 2 weeks until the end of the drive!

Also I should mention, if you're looking at the approved games lists and thinking "well I already played all of those" I am willing to negotiate and find something new and interesting for you should you win the raffle and want a game from Steam.

The only problem I have is like last year. I give directly to the charities so I know 100% goes to them. I gave  to Rainbows and St Giles in Early November (small and local) and have no proof of it. I do not mind if this does not enter me in the competition I gave because I wanted to and not to enter a competition :D

The purpose of my reply is not to inflame, annoy or offend people just to point out I do give just not the way that would be easy for the competition. Of which I think is a great idea just not how I give :o

I understand your concern, but is there no way they can just email you proof?
